The quick rendezvous. An extended liaison. A private indulgence.

Terroir means the complete natural environment in which a particular crop is produced, including things like soil, topography, and climate.

It’s a French word — you say it “ter-wah” — but in Daylesford, Victoria it resonates with the philosophy of our inviting bistro. We want our customers to feel like our friends, they are a vital part of our terroir.

The Chef

At the heart of our bistro is Chef/Owner Matthew Carnell. Bistro Terroir brings his accomplished skills, including as a chef at a Michelin 2 Star restaurant in France, to Daylesford.

Matthew has a passion for local food and drinks, combined with exceptional chef abilities and an innate sense of the whole dining experience. Over the past decade, Matthew has collected an impressive array of food, wine, produce and restaurant experience as well as many awards. Having seen the bright lights; now is Matthews time to connect with the local community and share fine French bistro style food, in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere.

Bookings

Bistro Terroir welcomes back bookings online — COVID-19 regulations are currently in place throughout the venue.

We ask all guests placing a reservation to amend, reschedule or cancel as early as possible. If your booking numbers change or you’re not able to make your booking on time please call to let us know. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Functions at COQ

COQ is an intimate events and functions space in the heart of Daylesford, VIC located at 8 Howe Street.

COQ offers both stand up and sit down functions and works in conjunction with the award winning restaurant and Chef at Bistro Terroir. It showcases seasonal French classics set in a contemporary modern space and is perfect for any function or event.
